Dave Walker to leave Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — After eight state championships in the last ten years, Martinsburg High School football coach Dave Walker is leaving.

MetroNews has confirmed Walker will be introduced Monday as the new head football Coach at Concord University.

The news comes less than two weeks after the Bulldogs captured their fourth straight state title and their 56th straight victory.

Walker is a graduate of Pineville High School and played college football at Glenville State.

Walker declined comment on the reports when contacted by MetroNews, but previously said on ‘Panhandle Live’ there were plans in place should a change occur.

“I can assure everyone that if something were to happen that it would be just fine. We have a great staff in tact with Britt Sherman and those guys do a great job. In recent years I’ve delegated more and more. So the program would be in great hands if I were to all of the sudden drop off of the face of the planet.”

Walker is the winningest coach in West Virginia football history with 304 victories with stints at East Hardy and then Martinsburg where he has been the head coach since 1997.

Concord finished 1-10 in 2019 and head coach Paul Price resigned from his position in November.

The Mountain Lions have not won more than two games in a season since 2015 when they finished 5-5.
