SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. — Several crews are responding to a train derailment in Jefferson County in the area of Route 230 and Whistle Stop Lane.

The site is in the area of Route 230 and Whistle Stop Lane near Shenandoah Junction. Multiple crossings are temporarily blocked, according to a release from the Shepherdstown Fire Department. It remained unclear Thursday afternoon what caused the accident.

The derailment is between the Harpers Ferry and Duffields MARC train stations. As a result, MARC Brunswick commuter lines from Washington, DC will not return to West Virginia this evening.

“CSX has notified MARC Train that there has been a freight train derailment between Harpers Ferry and Martinsburg. All evening Brunswick Line trains will terminate at Brunswick this evening. We are working to establish alternate bus service at this time and will send another message with details when arrangements are finalized.”
