MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg City Councilman will soon get to work as the Community Recovery Services Coordinator for Berkeley County.
Berkeley County Council members announced the hire of Ward 2 City Councilman Kevin Knowles to the position Thursday.
According to State Ethics Board there is no conflict of interest with Knowles taking the job while serving on the city council.
Knowles, who makes no secret about his own struggles with addiction, says he is excited to get to work.
He plans to continue working with some of the same people he has during his own recovery process.
“Those are the people I’ll be reaching out to,” Knowles said. “I think by using those same networks and those same contacts we can hit the ground running here.”
The council announced the position back in October to help streamline their efforts to create drug and alcohol recovery services for the community.
Knowles’ first day on the job is Feb. 22.
