MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — WVU Berkeley Medical Center unveiled their new Progressive Care Unit during an open house ceremony on Wednesday.

The Progressive Care Unit takes patients coming from the ICU that are more stable, and patients that need a higher level of care like a medical surgery patient.

The new unit features 13 beds – all in private rooms, a Doctor’s Dictation Lounge with 6 computers, and room for 5 Dialysis bays that will be implemented in the near future.

Nursing Director for Berkeley Medical Center, Adriana Palmer, says the private rooms are what her patients are most excited about.

She says, “We had some private rooms before, and a lot of semi-private rooms.  It seems to be one of the things that patients really push for.  Now we’re able to give them a more state of the art and modernized room where they can have that privacy.”

Jennifer Baker, an RN for Berkeley Medical Center spoke about the Doctor’s Dictation Lounge, saying, “Having 6 CPU’s for each doctor to use is a big step up – they won’t have to wait for one to become available.”

The unit will be open for patients on Thursday, February 4th.
