Berkeley County Sheriff’s Tax Office to Relocate

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. —   Effective Thursday at 8 a.m., the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Tax Office
will be providing services on the First Floor of the Berkeley County Administration Building.
“Berkeley County has worked hard to improve service to the taxpayers and I’m pleased to announce that this
move provides the public with greater convenience and access, which the citizens deserve,” Berkeley County
Council President James P. Whitacre said.
The Sheriff’s Tax Office, which is maintaining operations and service to the public throughout the transition, is
relocating to Suite 104 of the County Administration building at 400 W. Stephen St. in Martinsburg.

A press release from the county says the move is part of a comprehensive, $8.9 million public accessibility-focused project for the administrative office
building.
“I want to commend the Berkeley County Council for not only making services more efficient and accessible,
but improving the workplace environment for our Tax Office employees,” Berkeley County Sheriff Nathan
Harmon said.
Brechbill & Helman Construction Co., Inc., of Chambersburg, Pa., was awarded a contract in December 2022
for construction of a 600-square feet addition and renovation of about 42,000 square feet of the building as
part of the accessibility project.
The project architect is Crabtree, Rohrbaugh & Associates.
About $7.3 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding has been designated for the work.
The relocation of various county departments and offices during the renovation project has been guided, at
least in part, by the volume of public engagement that each county department, or office typically receives.
Additional offices to relocate in the coming months include; the Berkeley County Assessor’s Office, Berkeley
County Clerk’s Office, Berkeley County Emergency Ambulance Authority, Berkeley County Fire Service Board,
IT Department and Fiduciary Office
