Berkeley County Sheriff Harmon: Multi-State Crime Spree Halted

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Berkeley County Sheriff Harmon says his deputies stopped a multi-state crime spree this week.

Harmon says In the early morning hours on Thursday, January 27th 2022, Deputies received an alarm call to a commercial business in the county.

They saw “obvious damage and signs of forced entry into the business,” according to Harmon. As the Deputies closed their search net of the area they observed a male subject fleeing the area. After a brief foot pursuit and altercation Deputies and K9 units captured the suspect.

The suspect’s vehicle was located and subsequently revealed that it too was stolen out of PA and had “hundreds of dollars worth of stolen clothes, merchandise cards, large amount of marijuana, large amount of THC cartridges and the businesses stolen money on his person and inside his vehicle,” according to Harmon.

Harmon says his deputies were able to identify the Pennsylvania dealership that vehicle had been stolen from as well as a dealership in Rhode Island that had suffered a vehicle theft, allegedly by the same suspect.

The suspect was charged with felonies such as Breaking and Entering, possession of stolen property, transferring stolen property across state line, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and multiple other charges pending in Pennsylvania, Connecticut and Rhode Island, according to Sheriff Harmon.
