Berkeley County Sheriff announces arrests in Ulta Beauty Shoplifting Case, Looking Into Possible Ties to Other Thefts in Region

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — After $14,000.00 worth of perfume was shoplifted last week from an Ulta Beauty store in Winchester that may be part of a rash of such thefts on the East Coast, two women face charges for a similar case out of Martinsburg.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports they got a shoplifting complaint Monday (February 22nd) about 5 in the afternoon from the Ulta Beauty Store in the Retail Commons off I-81 in Martinsburg.

Employees said two females entered the store and stole several thousand dollars’ worth of fragrances.

They described the vehicle that the females left in.

Cpl. T.L. Funk spotted that vehicle fleeing the area and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled north on interstate 81 “at a high rate of speed.”

Deputies say the vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic and passing vehicles on the shoulder of the road.

Deputies along with the West Virginia State Police utilized “spike strips” to attempt to flatten the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle made it into Maryland, where it came to a stop around the 1-mile marker. The females then fled on foot from the vehicle but were taken into custody a short time later.

29-year-old Keiara Stokes, the driver, and 23-year-old Teyona Griffith, both of Baltimore, now face numerous charges and are being held in Maryland pending extradition.

Deputies recovered approximately 8,300 dollars’ worth of fragrances from the vehicle.

Deputies are looking into whether these thefts may be related to other similar thefts in the area. The Sheriff’s Department says that investigation is still active and additional charges could be forthcoming for the pair.
