HARPERS FERRY, W.Va. — A fire that killed two people and destroyed a home at the end of September in Harpers Ferry is still under investigation.
The West Virginia State Police tell The Panhandle News Network they are still looking into the cause of the blaze and until they get confirmation from the state medical examiner’s office, they are not publicly releasing any identification.
First Sergeant J. A. Meeks of the West Virginia State Police, Charles Town detachment says the cause of the blaze is “suspicious in nature” and still under investigation.
The fire injured three other people, one seriously.
As the Panhandle News Network previously reported, the blaze was reported at just after 9 a.m. Tuesday September 30th at 21 Blackberry Lane in Harpers Ferry.
Troopers said the bodies of a man and woman were found inside the residence after three other family members made it out of the burning house.
One of the survivors, Nicole Taylor, 54 was taken by emergency helicopter to an out-of-state hospital after suffering serious burn injuries.
Her children, Christopher Taylor, 23, and Penelope Taylor, 19, were transported to Jefferson Medical Center with minor injuries.
While the state police are not releasing identities, a post on a fundraising page provided updates October 9th.
State police indicated they will be conducting the death investigation, and the State Fire Marshal and ATF are conducting the fire investigating.
