CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Wind chills could reach down to 18 below zero tomorrow.

The National Weather Service in Baltimore has issued an Extreme Cold Warning for tonight into Tuesday morning for the Blue Ridge Mountains and lower Shenandoah Valley.

Very cold wind chills as low as 15 to 18 below zero are expected from 7 PM this evening to 11 AM Tuesday.

“The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 15 to 18 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected
skin is exposed to these temperatures. Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure,” according to the message from the National Weather Service.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water.

The Panhandle News Network reached out to a state road engineer as well as the public works director for the city of Martinsburg.  Both expressed urgency to get roads cleared off before Monday night when the cold air sets in.
