MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The newly-opened Martinsburg Cold Weather Shelter will be at St. John’s Lutheran Church this week.
Not only will high temperatures in the week ahead be below freezing, but a major winter storm could bring as much as two feet of snow to the area.
Caroline Wilson Case Manager, Berkeley County Community Outreach for Resources and Education (C.O.R.E.) Team – and Hannah Cooper, the shelter coordinator for the new Martinsburg Cold Weather Shelter were recent guests on Panhandle Live where they talked about how the shelter would be funded and staffed.
The shelter has been made possible by the Martinsburg Initiative with the cooperation of volunteers and area churches, which host the shelter on a rotating basis. Funding for staffing was made possible through a grant from the West Virginia First Foundation, which oversees distribution of funds from opioid settlements in the state.
The schedule is subject to change.
