BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — A Morgan County Animal Control officer who pulled a man out of his burning home was honored by the county commission Wednesday.

Ivory Brown was commended for her “her courage, instinct, and compassion to save another human being from a burning structure fire on December 29, 2025.”

Ivory Brown received a commendation from the Morgan County Commission for saving a man’s life.

In presenting her with the Morgan County Life Saver Award, the county commission said Brown’s actions “exemplified bravery, heroism and selflessness.”

Morgan County Animal Control says the fire broke out December 29th in the southern part of the county. Officer Brown was leaving a different incident when she came upon the fire.

Brown immediately reported the fire to the Morgan County WV E911 Center, who then dispatched fire units and EMS.

The home was fully involved but Officer Brown “made entry to the home several times, and ultimately was able to remove Mr. Stotler and bring him to safety” before fire crews arrived and extinguished the blaze.

EMS transported the victim to a local hospital before he was transported to a different facility to receive additional care.

ACO Brown says she was in the right place, at the right time. She went on to say “I thank God I was there and able to get him out. I have prayed every day for his continued recovery and for comfort for the family.”

Among those on hand for the presentation were members of the first responder community in Morgan County including the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Morgan County Fire Department, Morgan County EMS, and Morgan County Animal Control.
