BERKELEY COUNTY, W. Va. –Saturday marked five years Air National Guard firefighter Logan Young was killed while battling an arson fire.
Young and another firemen were battling a barn fire in the 3800 block of Charles Town Road in Berkeley County on December 27, 2020.
Investigators believe that a beam in the barn collapsed striking Young and another fireman. The second victim survived.
Young, who was 30, was a senior airman with the Martinsburg-based 167th Airlift Wing.
He joined the 167th Airlift Wing in 2018, after he served in the U.S. Air Force beginning in 2011. He was deployed to the Middle East in 2014.
Young had received numerous awards and decorations to include the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal and National Defense Service Medal.
The state Fire Marshal’s Office is still actively looking for a suspect in the case. There is a reward being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
