MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — At Thursday’s meeting of the Berkeley County Commission, Commissioner John Hardy gave an update on Staff Sergeant Andrew Wolfe, who was. Injured in an ambush-style shooting the day before Thanksgiving in Washington, DC.
“I’m sure everyone has heard and read that Sergeant Wolfe has been removed out of the hospital, is now into a rehab facility and is starting his rehab,” Hardy said.
“From all reports that I’ve heard, and mostly from his his mother, who has been a rock. His father and his mother and his brother have been there with him every step of the way and his fellow guardsmen,” Hardy continued, saying “The young man has had a tremendous amount of support, which makes my heart happy.”
“He’s left the hospital and he’s now in a rehab facility and he’s starting to learn how to walk again and talk and move around,” Hardy said, adding SSgt. Wolfe is making “tremendous strides.”
The Commission is a whole voted to expand the Berkeley County Fire Department’s leadership structure.
Commissioners also interviewed Nadine Kennedy for a position on the board of the Eastern Panhandle Transit Authority.
Commission President Eddie Gochenour gave an update about the construction of the Inwood Park.
“It’s going very, very well. They’re still coming in contact with a lot of rocks, so they’re doing a lot of blasting and trying to get the site prepared,” Gochenour announced.
“They have mitigated the sinkholes that I’ve told you about a couple weeks ago. The engineering firm gave them a plan and they, they’re doing very well with that.”
“The water district is working with them to extend the water line up through there to replace an existing aging line,” he said, adding that an electrical line that cuts across the property will be relocated.
“That will have to be done before it can be deenergized and moved out of the park property itself, but things are moving along there very well.”
The board ended the meeting with a prayer and a wish for all the families of Berkeley County.
“You know, as John had mentioned earlier, Andy Wolfe is making tremendous strides. Please, please keep him in your prayers, and his family,” Gochenour said.
“The prayers are working and it’s obvious,” he said before wishing everyone Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
