MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Many Municipal and county government offices in West Virginia will be closed for an extended Christmas break this week.

Governor Patrick Morrisey issued a proclamation last week that will give state employees the full day off from December 24 – 26.

That means most local government offices with the exception of essential services such as law enforcement, emergency services, and dispatch.

Offices will reopen for regular business hours on Dec. 29.

Contact the Berkeley County Commission at 304-264-1923 for more information.

In issuing the added time off, Governor Morrisey said, “I am so grateful to the tireless work of our state employees,” adding, “Their commitment to improving the lives of West Virginians inspires me everyday. I hope they are all able to use this time to spend Christmas with their loved ones and enjoy a well deserved break.”

The order grants this time off without charge against accrued annual leave.

This action applies only to employees of the State of West Virginia and may not affect private businesses, local governments, or other entities.
