MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries announced this week that the main branch in Martinsburg will open in February following asbestos abatement and HVAC work that has kept the library building closed since August of 2024.

“After an extensive HVAC system replacement and asbestos abatement project the Martinsburg Public Library is on track to reopen in February,” the announcement said.

The announcement expresses appreciation to patrons for their patience and support throughout the renovation.

In January and February, members of the Friends of the Martinsburg Public Library will be volunteering with librarians to reshelve books and help prepare the building for reopening.

They are planning a reception to celebrate the reopening.

2026 marks the 100th Anniversary of the library and folks associated with the library are already planning activities around the anniversary.
