CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — The Charles Town Police Department says someone is attempting to scam residents by impersonating law enforcement.

CPD said this week they’ve been told that area residents are receiving calls from a male portraying himself as “Detective Scott” or “Sergeant Scott” with the Charles Town Police Department, who “has legal matters to discuss.”
Anyone who receives such a call should simply hang up, according to CPD,  “If you receive a call from an unknown number, don’t answer it. Never divulge personal information over the phone or any other electronic device unless you are certain of the recipient.”

For clarification, no “Sergeant Scott” or “Detective Scott” is employed with the Charles Town Police Department.
