MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Police in Berkeley County say a West Virginia Division of Highways tractor was hit by an SUV Wednesday, resulting in serious injuries for the driver of the SUV and injuring the tractor driver. 

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office tells The Panhandle News Network they were dispatched to the 9500 block of Tuscarora Pike in Martinsburg at 1:45 Wednesday afternoon. (July 2, 2025) 

On scene was a Hyundai SUV and a John Deere Farm Tractor that is the property of the West Virginia Division of Highways 

The initial investigation revealed that the driver of the SUV was traveling west bound, crossed the  center line, and struck the WVDOH tractor that had been traveling east bound on the roadway.

The sheriff’s office reports both vehicles sustained heavy damage and had to be towed from the scene.

The driver of the SUV, whose name was not released, was transported to Berkeley Medical Center with what were described as serious injuries.

The driver of the WVDOH tractor was transported to Berkeley Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.
