BUNKER HILL, W.Va. — Two Eastern Panhandle men face stolen vehicle charges after leading deputies on a chase in South Berkeley County.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office tells The Panhandle News Network they had received a number of complaints out of the Bunker Hill area that fuel was being taken from personal vehicles and local businesses.

They received a tip that William Pennington, 31, of Bunker Hill was driving around the Inwood area in a stolen vehicle.

Deputy Little attempted a traffic stop, but Pennington drove off. Little and three deputies conducted what was deemed a “high risk traffic stop” when the chase came to an end in the 1100 block of Apple Harvest Drive.

Pennington and his passenger, Michael Hendricks, 52, of Kearneysville, were taken into custody Sunday without further incident.

Investigators are still looking into the fuel thefts.

William Pennington has been charged with Fleeing with Reckless Indifference and Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

Michael Hendricks has been charged with Conspiracy related to the Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.

Both were last reportedly lodged in the Eastern Regional Jail.
