MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — It’s a solemn remembrance of those who gave the ultimate measure for their country, and a chance to enjoy some of those freedoms.
Capping off a weekend of events in the area, here is a rundown of some of the Memorial Day events happening Monday, May 26th.
The Bolivar/Harpers Ferry Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Events will be hosted by the Harper Ferry/Bolivar Veterans Honor Guard

At War Memorial Park in Martinsburg Monday, May 26th: The Berkeley County Veterans Ceremony Committee is hosting a special Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 26th at 11 a.m., at War Memorial Park, 500 North Tennessee Avenue in Martinsburg.

This year’s keynote address will be delivered by West Virginia State Senator and decorated Green Beret veteran, Tom Willis.
In addition to patriotic music and solemn tributes, community service organizations and citizens alike will be invited to lay wreaths in honor of the fallen. There will also be a “Say Their Name” program, a tribute where the names of post 9-11 fallen service members are read aloud to honor their memory.
In Washington County: A number of Memorial Day ceremonies will take place in Washington County today. In downtown Hagerstown, the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42’s Memorial Day ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. in front of the Washington County Courthouse. The Friends of the Halfway Maryland African American Cemetery will host a Decoration Day ceremony to place flowers on the gravestones and all of the veterans buried there will be recognized. Boonsboro holds a wreath-laying ceremony and memorial service at the World War I monument in front of Town Hall at 1 p.m. and that will be followed by the Memorial Day parade down Main Street starting at 2 p.m. In the Town of Sharpsburg there will be a wreath-laying ceremony on the Town Square at 11 a.m. and a Memorial Day parade down Main Street will begin at 2 p.m.
