MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Board of Education met Monday.  Our reporter Clint Gaige brought back the following highlights:

At Monday’s Berkeley County Board of Education meeting during the citizen’s forum, one citizen had concerns about the staffing crisis in the county

The Board does not respond to citizen comments.

In other business, the board was set to vote on the elimination of equity and inclusion. Board member Patrick Murphy had some harsh words for the removal of diversity and equity.

After much debate, the Board agreed to table the motion until the June 16th meeting to have meetings with legal and administration to have a concrete plan moving forward. Board President Jackee Long spelled it out prior to the vote.

The vote to table the removal of Equity and Inclusion passed unanimously. The board will now seek legal counsel and plan a rollout for whatever is decided upon.

In other business, the Board took some time to recognize students throughout the county for music, dance, science fairs, social studies and robotics.
