Frederick County, VA — A Frederick County, Virginia teenager has been charged with attempted murder after shooting his stepfather in what the Sheriff’s Office characterizes as a domestic incident.
The 16-year-old called dispatch Sunday and said he had just shot his stepfather. Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and EMS personnel responded to the Shawneeland residence and made contact with the youth, unarmed, in a wooded area near the home.
He was detained without incident.
Inside the residence, an adult male victim was located, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was then transported to the Winchester Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries and last reported to be in stable condition.
Their investigation indicates while there was no physical altercation or argument al the time, the suspect produced a small caliber rifle and shot the victim before other family members interceded and took possession of the weapon.
The teenager is currently being held at the juvenile detention facility. He has been charged with Attempted Murder, Malicious Wounding and Firing a Weapon in an Occupied Dwelling.
