MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — After a severe drought that impacted crops last growing season, the US Drought Monitor indicates severe drought conditions are back in part of the Eastern Panhandle.
In the latest report issued this week, the Drought Monitor reports Martinsburg and Charles Town areas have moved from Moderate, or D-1 Drought to Severe Drought, or D-2.
Both have been in a drought for the past 22 weeks, that after a spring and summer of 2024 that saw dry conditions not seen in more than a hundred years.
Morgan County continues in moderate drought conditions, according to the US Drought Monitor.
