MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — There is an update on a donation drive announced late last month. Berkeley County Commissioner John Hardy spearheaded “Berkeley County Cares,” a donation drive for those impacted by Valentine’s weekend flooding in southern West Virginia.
Donations were accepted at all the volunteer fire companies in Berkeley County and the Martinsburg Fire Department, the Sheriff’s Department, and over a long weekend at a donation drive at the Spring Mills Wal-mart.
An appreciation post from the Berkeley County Commission said, “A HUGE shoutout to all the amazing donors and volunteers who rallied together for Southern West Virginia flood victims!
Your generosity and volunteer efforts make a world of difference.”
Commissioner Hardy tells The Panhandle News Network two large enclosed trailers full of relief items were delivered Friday to a distribution center in Polka, West Virginia.
“Not sure of tonnage,” Hardy said, “but It was a great effort and success on everyone’s part. Great community we all live in.”
