BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — A Widmyer Elementary School teacher was arrested this week on child abuse charges.
Jazmyn Rohrer was charged Monday with three counts of child abuse by a person in a position of trust.
Morgan County Schools issued a statement explaining school officials made a mandatory report of potential abuse to the appropriate state agencies following the review of a classroom incident captured on video.
Rohrer was “immediately removed from the classroom effective on December 10, 2024,” according to the statement from MCS.
“While there is of course the presumption of innocence in our country, administration felt it to be in our school community’s best interest to inform our parents/guardians of the arrest,” said the statement.
“Appropriate personnel action will be taken with regard to Rohrer, but please understand personnel laws at this time prevent administration from being specific as to what the next step is, as employees are entitled to due process,” according to MCS.
The statement further explains the West Virginia Department of Education has also been notified and will “also take appropriate steps, such as immediately suspending Rohrer’s teaching license.”
The school system will make no further comments given the pending criminal action.
