SPRING MILLS, W.Va. — One teenager faces a firearms charge and another juvenile could face charges after the first reportedly pulled a firearm out from under his shirt and placed it in a vehicle – in the parking lot of Spring Mills High School.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department tells The Panhandle News Network the incident occurred Tuesday, December 17th.
The school resource officer, Deputy D. Cox received a complaint around the time school was starting that indicated a student might be intoxicated in the parking lot.
The student, later identified as Michael W. Shane, 18, of Martinsburg, reportedly was seen “standing in the parking lot of the high school drinking alcoholic beverages.”
A witness reported seeing Shane removing a firearm from his clothing and place the firearm into his vehicle.
Deputy Cox went to the truck to remove the firearm, but learned that another juvenile had already removed the weapon and left the area in another vehicle “with several other juveniles.”
A BOLO “be on the lookout” was broadcasted to all local police agencies for this vehicle.
Just before 9 a.m., deputies located the vehicle in the area of Williamsport Pike and Meadow Lane. The firearm was located at another location, according to the report.
Charges are pending for the juvenile that removed the weapon from the vehicle. This investigation is ongoing.
