MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Federal prosecutors say an Arlington, Virginia man worked with others to ‘straw purchase fire arms in Berkeley, Morgan, and Jefferson Counties. This week, Michael Jamar Handon, 33 was sentenced to 114 months in prison for aiding and abetting the false statement during the purchase of a firearm.

According to court documents, Handon is prohibited from having firearms because of prior convictions of violent felon in possession/transport of a weapon, and possession of ammunition.

US Attorney William Ihlenfeld says Handon will serve three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Eleanor Hurney prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated.

U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided.
