INWOOD, W.Va. — A traffic crash on Gerrardstown Road Tuesday injured four, including a juvenile who was ejected out of the vehicle.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department tells The Panhandle News Network the accident occurred in the 3800 block of Gerrardstown Road.
Investigators say a BMW was traveling eastbound at ‘an excessive speed’ and went into skid, entering the oncoming lane and strikinga westbound Audi.
The driver of the BMW was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital and was last reportedly in critical condition. A juvenile passenger in the backseat of that car was ejected out of the back glass and was transported to Berkeley Medical Center, as was another passenger in the BMW. Both were last listed in stable condition. The driver of the Audi was taken to the same hospital and was last listed in stable condition.
Investigators concluded the driver of the BMW was responsible for the accident.
From the BCSD Press Release:
On December 3, 2024 at 6:35 PM, Deputy Milburn with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two vehicle accident in the 3800 block of Gerrardstown Road. Upon arrival, Deputy Milburn learned that one juvenile passenger had been ejected out of the back glass of one of the vehicles. All four parties involved were in need of medical attention so Deputy Milburn began to render aid to the four involved parties until medic units arrived on scene.
Sgt. Anaya was requested to respond to the scene as one of the department’s accident reconstructionists. The investigation revealed that a 1999 BMW 528 had been traveling eastbound in the 3800 block of Gerrardstown Road. Roadway markings indicate that the BMW lost control, likely due to excessive speed, and went into a yaw (skid) before entering the westbound lane. A 2023 Audi Q5 had been traveling westbound as the BMW entered the Audi’s lane of travel. A collision resulted between the two vehicles which caused the backseat passenger of the BMW to get ejected out of the vehicle through the back window. The BMWs driver was flown to Innova Fairfax Hospital for emergency trauma treatment where he remains in critical condition. The BMW’s front passenger and back passenger were transported by ground to the Berkeley Medical Center where they are listed in stable condition. The Audis driver was transported by ground to the Berkeley Medical Center for treatment as well and is in stable condition. The result of the investigation concluded that the driver of the BMW has been found to be responsible for the accident.
