MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The latest data from the U.S. Drought Monitor indicates drought conditions worsened in Martinsburg and Charles Town.
Both regions are now in “Severe Drought” or D2 status this week, after having been on Moderate, or D1 status.
Martinsburg and Charles Town have been in drought for the past 4 week(s), since October 22, 2024, according to the Us Drought Monitor.
The Climate Prediction Center’s November Drought Outlook, released on October 31, 2024, predicted that drought conditions would persist in November.
89 percent of Morgan County is still considered D1 for Moderate Drought. The exception is a small part of the north east parf of the county, which is at level D2.
The latest report indicates last month marked the driest October on record, over the past 130 years, with precipitation off nearly two inches from normal.
