The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office released a statement from Sheriff Rob Blair on Wednesday addressing an investigation into the department by the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office.

“Since taking office on January 18, 2024, I have pledged the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office’s 100% cooperation and support of any and all investigations, both prior to my appointment as Berkeley County Sheriff and during serving out the unexpired term of the previous administration. This cooperation has been ongoing,” he said.

Blair continues in the release, detailing steps taken in cooperation with the investigation including the assignment of a liaison officer from the sheriff’s office’s Law Enforcement division to assist, actions “necessary to address personnel and day to day office related matters,” making additional resources available to investigative agencies, and taking actions to “address past and present deficiencies identified as a result of these investigations.”

The release concludes by stating that the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office will make no statement related to these investigations until all investigative matters are concluded and that all inquiries should be directed to the West Virginia State Auditor’s Office or the Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
