CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — The Jefferson County Board of Education met Monday.  Our Al Gaige brought some of the top stories from that meeting.

Deputy Superintendent of Operations, Joyce White. updated the Board of the Ranson Elementary Construction.

Assistant Superintendent White also had a positive report concerning the progress of the construction for the New Shepherdstown Elementary School.

Superintendent, Dr. Chuck Bishop discussed the system’s accreditation:

According to the Superintendent’s report, the system’s operational effectiveness needs assistance in Personnel, Special Education, and Universal Pre-K.

Jefferson County Schools is reportedly working with Shephard University in those efforts. The Board also discussed concerns over the lack of public comments regarding various recent policy recommendations.

The board also discussed five BOE goals.  At the top is Special Ed, as discussed by Superintendent Bishop:

Superintendent Dr. Bishop says it doesn’t necessarily mean throwing money at the problem but using existing resources more efficiently and effectively. Other issues on the Board’s radar involve retention, safety and support, and quality substitutes.
