HAGERSTOWN, MD — A man reportedly fleeing from police in Hagerstown left a firearm behind.

The Hagerstown Police Department  reports an officer was doing foot patrol around 11 a.m. Wednesday when he approached a group of people at the rear of  58 East Antietam Street.

“The officer attempted to approach one of the individuals and as he did, the male fled on foot,” according to a press release from the department.

The suspect ran through backyards and jumped fences, eluding police.

“Unfortunately, officers were not able to find the suspect but they did find the cross body bag he had been wearing,” HPD reports. Inside, officers found a fully loaded Taurus 9mm handgun.

Officers are working on identifying the suspect and this is an open case.
