FRONT ROYAL, VA — A Hedgesville woman has been charged with reckless driving after a crash in Warren County Virginia that claimed the life of a tractor trailer driver.
Virginia State Police tell The Panhandle News Network the crash occurred Monday October 21st just before 1 p.m. on Interstate 66 at the 6-mile marker.
A 2008 Dodge Caliber was traveling on the entrance ramp to I-66 from northbound Rte. 522 when it lost control, ran off the left side of the ramp, causing it to cross the westbound lanes and collide with a westbound 2000 Kenworth tractor-trailer, which was traveling in the left lane. The impact caused the tractor-trailer to run off the right side of the roadway, collide with the bridge guardrail, overturn off the bridge, and come to rest on northbound Rte. 522. The tractor-trailer then caught fire.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Roger B. Martin, 67, of Roanoke, Va., died at the scene.
The driver of the Dodge, Dawn M. Mongold, 58, of Hedgesville, WV., was not injured in the crash. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Mongold was charged with reckless driving.
The crash remains under investigation.
