MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office reports a Friday night crash has claimed the life of a man from Berkeley Springs.

On October 18, 2024 at approximately 9:20 pm, Berkley County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a report of a traffic collision with entrapment/injuries in the 2400 block of Tuscarora Pike.

When they arrived on scene, deputies located a single vehicle, a 2020 Dodge Journey, off the roadway into a tree. Initial evidence on scene indicated that the vehicle was traveling southwest on Tuscarora Pike downhill and was negotiating a curve. The driver appeared to lose control of the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a tree.

The vehicle was operated by a 53-year-old white male from Berkeley Springs, West Virginia, who was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There was evidence on scene that indicated both speed and driving under the influence were contributing factors in the collision, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department.

This crash is still under investigation by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team
