INWOOD, W,Va. — When a truck hauling milk crashed on I-81 near Inwood Tuesday evening, it created a hazardous materials risk.

According to Berkeley County Professional Firefighters Local 5045
the accident occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday at the 1.5 mile marker on northbound I-81 near Inwood.

The initial report was for an overturned semi tanker leaking milk.

The driver reported to FD personnel on scene that he was hauling approximately 5,000 gallons of milk.

The Firefighters union writes, “Although we do not think of milk as a concern, milk in high quantities are hazardous to ecosystems and must be handled accordingly. BCFD Hazardous Materials Technicians were able to dam and contain the product preventing it from entering the runoff drains. Interstate 81 was shutdown for several hours as crews worked on scene.”
