INWOOD, W.Va – The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call in the early hours of Wednesday morning to a report that an intruder had been shot at a vacant home in Inwood.
A release from the sheriff’s department states that Berkeley Central Dispatch received a call at 3:46 am on Wednesday from Michael Marshall who reported that he had just shot an intruder at his mother’s vacant home on Winchester Avenue. Deputies responded to the scene where they found a male, later identified as Joshua Boone, lying face down on the floor of the home’s garage with a gunshot wound.
Deputies attempted life-saving measures and Boone was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after the arrival of emergency services. Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Criminal Investigators were called to the scene and informed by Marshall that he had reported a break-in at the residence on August 27 and installed motion sensors shortly afterward.
Marshall further told the investigators that he was alerted to motion at the residence and upon arrival, located Boone who turned toward him with something in his hand at which time he fired his handgun at Boone, hitting him. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department reports that the investigation is still ongoing and will be presented to the Berkeley County Prosecutor’s Office when complete.
