MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The 2024 WVU Medicine Children’s and WVRC Media Cares for Kids Radiothon broke its previous fundraising record set in 2023. Thanks to the community’s donations, the August event raised $191,740 for the greatest needs of WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.
“We are grateful to the community for their generosity and to WVRC Media for their partnership and support of our mission to build healthier futures for our kids,” Amy L. Bush, B.S.N., M.B.A., C.N.O.R., chief administrative officer of WVU Medicine Children’s, said. “Sharing the stories of our patients through the Radiothon is so powerful, and the money raised directly benefits the children and expectant mothers who entrust us with their care.”
On Aug. 22 and 23, nine radio stations broadcast live in the Hostetler Family Resource Center, located on the 10th floor of WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital.
Listeners were able to meet patients and families and hear their inspiring stories. WVU Medicine Children’s healthcare providers also spent time with the radio stations to talk about the world-class care being offered close to home in local communities.
“All of us at WVRC Media could not be more excited about the way our clients, our listeners, and our viewers responded to the Radiothon,” George Pelletier, president and CEO of WVRC Media, said. “The results of this year’s event surpassed our expectations and showed how much the good people of West Virginia want to assist children who have to visit WVU Medicine Children’s. We are proud to be an integral part of the Radiothon.”
More than 30 radio stations across the state and region participated in the Radiothon and spread the mission of WVU Medicine Children’s to their communities.
Although the live broadcast from WVU Medicine Children’s was only two days, the community continued to donate through the weekend to increase the fundraising total. Those donations help make sure children continue to have access to high quality care and are given comfort while being treated at the hospital.
