MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — As many folks in the community celebrate the unofficial end of the summer on Labor Day, a few perennial volunteers will be working hard — all to benefit a local park.
The Labor Day Breakfast at War Memorial Park brings out community volunteers and folks who gather at the main park pavilion to enjoy the day and do a bit of good.

Buzz Poland, with the Friends of War Memorial Park Association, talked about the long-standing tradition on a recent episode of Panhandle Live.

He talked about the tradition, which dates back to the 1940s.

He says there are options for diners besides the options for steak or country ham.  They can also get an order ‘to go,’ according to Buzz Poland.

As for how the proceeds from the breakfast have helped through the years with a variety of projects, most recently updating the pavilions in the park.

This year, they’re checking off the last item on the Pavilion To Do List, the Pavilion in the Hollow:

 

Panhandle Sports Live and Panhandle Live will broadcast from the park Monday.

The War Memorial Park Association 2024 Labor Day  Breakfast will be held at the Main Pavilion at War Memorial Park Monday, September 2, 2024 from 7:30 to 10:30 in the morning.

The choices include either steak or country ham, eggs, toast, juice & coffee (the kids meal replaces meat with pancakes.)
