MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — For the second year, radio hosts and members of the community came together to share some love with children around the state.

WVRC Media, parent company of MetroNews, and its listeners raised more than $172,000 for WVU Medicine Children’s Hospital during the Cares for Kids Radiothon.

Listeners to 30 radio stations from Morgantown, Charleston, Beckley, Fairmont, Elkins, Martinsburg, Keyser and Clarksburg answered the call during the event held Thursday and Friday.

Station personalities broadcast live both days from the hospital’s Hostetler Family Resource Center. They interviewed hospital officials and families in connection with the care received at WVU Medicine Children’s.

“The Radiothon is a powerful tool to raise the critical funds needed to help the kids and expectant mothers in our community,” WVU Medicine Children’s Chief Administrative Officer Amy Bush heading into the event.

The 2023 radiothon raised $118,00, this year generosity of listeners topped that total by approximately $54,000.

“All of us at WVRC Media and MetroNews are pleased to assist WVU Medicine Children’s with this Radiothon,” George Pelletier, WVRC Media president and CEO said. “So many children right in our home communities benefit from the dollars raised during the event. Making a child’s visit or stay in the hospital a better experience is a great cause and one that we are proud to assist with.”

Last year, more than 81,000 children used the services offered by WVU Medicine Children’s at both their Morgantown campus and at clinics around the state.

A final total for fundraising for the effort is expected September 4th.
