First Sergeant Jonathan A. Meeks of West Virginia State Police out of Jefferson County tells The Panhandle News network they were called to a home at 248 Mad Hatter Road in the Shannondale community of Harpers Ferry for the report of a structure collapse.

Sgt. Meeks says a tree had uprooted and fallen through the residence.  An occupant, 36-year-old Stephanie Wishmyer was pinned under the tree and pronounced deceased at the scene.

Her husband, Peter Twigg, was in another area of the home and escaped injury.

While emergency personnel were on the scene, another tree fell and struck Rescue 4 from Independent Fire Company resulting in minimal damage but no injuries.

The tree brought down power lines in the area, and one fell on Loudoun County’s Truck 620.  Operations were temporarily suspended until the lines could be removed and safe operations could resume.

Responding along with the  West Virginia State Police were fire and emergency personnel from Jefferson County, West Virginia, Loudoun County, Virginia, and Washington County, Maryland
