MARTINSBURG, W.Va – Three people from the Eastern Panhandle were arrested last Thursday following a traffic stop when a Berkeley County deputy discovered suspected fentanyl, as well as suspected cocaine in both crack and powder forms.

Deputy Kolb of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department conducted a routine traffic stop of a 2008 Honda Civic around 4:30 pm on August 1 on Route 9 in Berkeley County for a traffic infraction. According to a release from the sheriff’s department, Deputy Kolb “observed specific indicators of drug traffickers” and then utilized his K9 partner Hugo who alerted to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.

Upon searching the vehicle, the deputy located 158 caps of suspected fentanyl along with other suspected controlled dangerous substances including two individual vials and three bags of suspected crack cocaine and two small bags of white powder consistent with the characteristics of cocaine.

The three people in the car were identified as 38-year-old Jack McFarlan of Martinsburg, 36-year-old Tiffany Shirley of Bunker Hill, and 32-year-old Amber Whitt of Paw Paw. During investigation, it was discovered that both McFarlan and Whitt, the latter of whom initially provided a false name to law enforcement, each had outstanding warrants for their arrests. Whitt was also wanted for an extraditable felony offense in Winchester, VA.
