MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Three youth, all aged 15 were apprehended after police in Berkeley County say they led them on a high-speed chase Sunday.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department tells The Panhandle News Network Sgt. Wolfe attempted to stop a Dodge Durango on Winchester Avenue about 12:24 Sunday morning, just after midnight.
The Durango continued “in a reckless manner,” with the youth ‘running off the roadway and driving erratically” eastbound on Paynes Ford Road, stopped briefly in the Heritage Hills subdivision and after Wolfe exited his cruiser and directed the driver to turn the Durango off, the youth took off again, driving the Durango to Payne’s Ford Road before driving into a field.
Sgt. Wolfe followed the tire tracks to a ravine. At the bottom of the ravine, he saw the Durango wrecked and three occupants running away.
The boys eventually came back to the vehicle, requesting medical treatment. All were transported to Berkeley Medical Center for treatment.
The juvenile driver was wearing an ankle monitor and was on home confinement due to a previous arrest. He has been placed under arrest for fleeing with reckless indifference and remanded to the Vickie Douglas Juvenile Detention Center, according to the BCSD.
The juvenile passengers were released to their parents.
