KEARNEYSVILLE, W.VA. — Sixty One animals were seized from a home in Kearneysville following a welfare check Friday July 19th.
Jefferson County Animal Control Officer Zach Holler says they got a call about animals living in ‘not so great conditions.’
He says the following day, they made a visit to the home. They came back with a search warrant and brought 61 animals out.
Here is a clip of Officer Holler telling about how they learned about the animals:
Among the animals were 15 dogs, one raven, one cockatoo, one cockatiel, two turkeys, eight ducks, 17 guinea pigs and 16 rabbits. Holler says they can handle maybe five dogs at a time at Animal Control, but with this many and this many different types, they needed some help.
Holler says some of the animals were quite emaciated.
He says the owner of the animals may have been overwhelmed by the number of animals in his care.
Animal Control Supervisor Jess Ebersole explained what happened next.
The Raven, once rehabbed, may become an ambassador, according to Officer Holler:
Holler and Ebersole were guests on Monday’s Panhandle Live.
