MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department says suspects attempted to drive a car through a tattoo studio and a gun store early Thursday morning.
An adult and a juvenile were placed under arrest after the incident, although their identities have not been released.
BCSD reports they were dispatched around 3 in the morning to an “active breaking and entering at “Blackfield Tattoo” located on Williamsport Pike in Martinsburg.”
Deputies saw a white Hyundai Elantra in front of the business. The driver fled and the pursuit continued on to Hammonds Mill Road and eventually on to I-81 northbound where Maryland State Police took up the chase once the vehicle crossed the state line.
Back at the scene of the break-in, deputies learned the suspects had attempted to use another vehicle, a red Elantra, to drive into two entrances at the rear of the Tattoo studio. The brick wall and doors were damaged.
Investigators believe the same red car was also used in an attempt to drive in to the front of another business, 2-A Guns. That attempt “caused damage to the front of the store but it did not appear as if the subjects successfully gained entry,” according to BCSD.
Investigators say the red vehicle had been stolen from Hagerstown just prior to the incident. The white Elantra had been stolen during the incident from a nearby residence.
Around 5:30 a.m., Maryland authorities reported they had located the white vehicle and arrested the adult and the juvenile.
