MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A tractor trailer accident on I-81 affected traffic for more than three hours yesterday. The wreck at the 12 mile marker was called in just before 3 p.m. and would go on to shut the southbound lanes of the interstate down completely during the busy Fourth of July travel surge.

A supervisor with Berkeley County Dispatch tells the Panhandle News Network the truck driver was injured and that despite a picture appeared to show the big rig resting on something the size of a car, there was no passenger vehicle involved. She says a guardrail sustained heavy damage, though.

No word on the condition of the driver, although scanner traffic at the time indicated he was complaining of head pain.
