MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A suspect in a grand larceny had only gone a few miles up the interstate when investigators caught up to him and a stolen landscape truck. The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department reports the theft was reported Monday, June 24th around 3:15 in the afternoon.

A landscaper reports three of his employees were working on North Tennessee Ave in Martinsburg, WV when his white F350 truck pulling a trailer full of landscaping equipment was stolen.

The investigating Deputy received information that the vehicle and its contents, valued at  approximately $100,000.00 had been located at the Comfort Inn off of Edwin Miller Blvd. in Martinsburg.

Trooper Shank with the West Virginia State Police secured the truck and equipment and Berkeley County Deputy Northcraft and Trooper Shank made contact with a WV Fire Marshal who had been at the hotel interviewing the suspect related to a separate crime.

40-year-old Falling Waters resident Christopher Joseph Sterling Johnson was arrested for Grand Larceny and transported to Eastern Regional Jail.  Johnson was last reportedly lodged in the Eastern Regional Jail on a $25,000.00 bond.

Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
