MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department is starting up a new initiative to serve arrest warrants that are currently active.

It’s called “Wanted Wednesday.”

Folks who see their own names on the site are asked to “contact the office at 304-267-7000 and make arrangements to turn themselves in between the hours of 9am-4pm, so that they can be brought directly to a magistrate and be afforded the opportunity to post bond,” according to the announcement from the Sheriff’s Department.

“This will reduce jail costs incurred by the county, reduce the possibility of these “wanted persons” being incarcerated during “off hours” of the magistrate court and reduce the possibility of being arrested in the middle of the night,” according to the Sheriff’s Department.

Anyone with information about a wanted individual can submit an anonymous online tip on the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department web page or they can call in to the office.

Information can be submitted at the Drug Tips Submission Form at berkeleywv.org

Wanted Posters will be available at the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department Facebook  page.
