RANSON, W.Va. – WVU Medicine Jefferson Medical Center will move all inpatient obstetric (OB) services to WVU Medicine Berkeley Medical Center starting Monday, June 3rd to provide additional surgical capacity within West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle and help with the critical situation at Berkeley Medical Center.
A press release from the hospital system said the move will allow an operating room at Jefferson Medical Center that is typically reserved for obstetrics to be used for general surgery cases.
“Jefferson Medical Center OB patients will continue to see their current provider for routine office visits. However, all other deliveries, inductions, C-Sections, and inpatient OB care will take place at Berkeley Medical Center’s OB unit and its dedicated surgical suite, or another facility of the patient’s choosing,” according to the announcement.
“Jefferson Medical Center will also continue to provide medical treatment to OB patients who present to the hospital’s emergency department in active labor or otherwise seeking emergency care for a medical condition.”
