16th District Senator Patricia Rucker

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. — Incumbent 16th District Senator Patricia Rucker won by a relatively thin margin over challenger Paul Espinosa, who has served in leadership positions in the House of Delegates.

Senator Rucker said she felt relieved but is looking ahead to November to a contest with Democrat and former Delegate John Doyle:

In the race, which spanned parts of Jefferson and Berkeley Counties, Rucker garnered 51 percent of the results, with 5,158 votes.

Espinosa, who has served in leadership roles during his time as a delegate in the 98th District, including as Speaker Pro Tempore, got 49 percent of the results, with 4,928 votes.

Senator Rucker was first elected to the 16th District seat in 2016.

She currently serves on the Senate Health and Human Resources Committee, Senate Judiciary Committee, Senate Outdoor Recreation Committee, and is Chair of the School Choice Committee.
