Bodkins heads to Shepherd after serving as now formerly Alderson Broaddus University’s vice president of enrollment management and director of athletics. Bodkins also was head volleyball coach, senior woman administrator, and instructor of physical education at Davis and Elkins College.

“Carrie’s vision for athletics in an academic setting will enhance the experience of student-athletes, supporting their success in competition and in the classroom,”
Shepherd University President Dr. Mary J.C. Hendrix said.

“She has a rich history of working collaboratively with coaches, faculty, and staff towards a common goal of advancing a university’s mission, Hendrix added. “We are excited for her to join us.”

Bodkins is set to oversee Shepherd’s 16 varsity sports and athletic success is what drew her to the opportunity.

“I like the size of the campus, the family atmosphere, and the location of the campus,” Bodkins said. “Shepherd University athletics has unlimited potential for being successful in Division II and the PSAC. I am excited to build on the solid foundation we have at Shepherd University and anxious to catapult the department to the next level.”

Bodkins’s other involvements with the NCAA are plentiful. She served on the NCAA Division II Implementation Committee, the NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer Committee, the NCAA Division II Identity Sub-Committee, and served three years on the NCAA Volleyball Rules Committee.

The hiring of Bodkins comes after former Director of Athletics Chauncey Winbush departed this past September to accept the role of Deputy Athletic Director at Miami University of Ohio.
