HAGERSTOWN, MD — The Hagerstown Police Department says a suspect in a 2020 slaying in Hagerstown has been arrested in California.
Police Lt. Rebecca Fetchu tells The Panhandle News Network Raymond Garfield Campbell, 36 was arrested March 21st in Sacramento California. He had been a fugitive since October of 2020 when an arrest warrant was issued for first degree murder and other charges related to the October 14th, 2020 murder of Daynard Devere Johnson. Johnson was found deceased at approximately 10:30 pm in the 300 block of Henry Ave with multiple gunshot wounds. Johnson was a 43 year old resident of Waynesboro Pennsylvania at the time of his death.
Campbell was extradited back to Maryland Tuesday, April 9th. He is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center.
“Hagerstown Police Department would like to thank FBI Sacramento and the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department for their apprehension of Campbell,” according to Fetchu. “We also want to thank our warrant task force officers that traveled to Sacramento and safely returned to Hagerstown with the suspect.”
